Coffs Harbour is a city in New South Wales located on the coast and is a popular half way point between Sydney and Brisbane. It is 540 km north of Sydney and 390 km south of Brisbane. The region is known as the Bananacoast because Coff’s Harbour’s economy used to be based almost solely on bananas. Bendigo is located in the centre of Victoria about 150 km north of Melbourne. Like Ballarat, Victoria  (which we also have a City Spotlight on), it was a boomtown of the Victorian era gold rush. The city has a population just over 100,000 and is the 4th largest inland city in Australia. It is one of the only non-capital cities to have a large financial district and is home to the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank as well as the Bendigo Stock Exchange. Darwin is the capital city in the Northern Territory of Australia and it is the most populated city in the remote Northern Territory. To give you an idea, it is the 15th most populated city in Australia. We have been featuring some of the other most popular cities that are growing in population and people are planning to move to. Darwin is located on the coast of the Timor Sea. Originally, it was a pioneer outpost and now it is the Top regional centre. It has a population over 136,000. Darwin is a sharp contrast from the rest of the Northern Territory which is quite sparse and remote. Townsville is located on the coast in Northern Queensland. It is one of the major port cities to the Great Barrier Reef, adjacent to the central section of it. Townsville is often referred to as the unofficial capital of North Queensland. It is located about halfway between Brisbane and Cape York. This is the dry tropics region of Queensland and Townsville is the largest urban centre in the north. Geelong is a port city located in Victoria on Corio Bay and the Barwon River, west of Melbourne. It is the second most populated city in Victoria behind Melbourne with about 300,000 residents. It offers residents a place to live that still have a city feel but with a big sense of community. It is close to businesses, the beach, gold courses, wineries and much more. The cost of living is less that Melbourne along with less hustle and bustle. The city aims to provide the best work/life balance for its residents. Geelong and the surrounding region is an important part of the Victorian state economy. It is just about an hour drive from Melbourne. The City of Great Geelong is the administrative centre and municipality which covers the urban and surrounding areas. The metropolitan area runs from the plains of Lara to the north down to Waurn Ponds in the south with its rolling hills. The city extends from the bay to the east out to the hills of the west.
