Some Australians have a traditional looking Christmas tree while others opt for the Australian Christmas Bush; yet others might have both types of tree decorations for the holidays. In addition to traditional Christmas ornaments, many Australians like to have a mix of Australian symbols and even beach decor like shells and nautical ornaments. The Christmas Bush is very popular in Australia during Christmas time and throughout summer. In spring the flowers of the ceratopetalum gumm, known as the Christmas Bush Plant, start out cream coloured. During December, just before Christmas, they turn bright red, thus the popularity of this plant in Australian Christmas decorations.

In addition to the tree having a beach theme, other decorations around your home can be a combination of Christmas and summer. The surfboard with Christmas lights is a fun decoration tradition. Wreaths are also very popular decor in Australia for Christmas. Most wreaths are made of eucalyptus leaves and shells to represent summer at the beaches in Australia. A wreath like this also can have more longevity than one with simply a Christmas theme. Summer themed wreaths can be used all summer, or put up after Christmas is over to keep the holiday and summer vibe alive.
