Cape Palmerston National Park features rocky headlands, coastal woodlands, and secluded beaches all with plenty of rugged terrain. This is a great place for a relaxing holiday where you can be close to nature. Cape Palmerston National Park is located almost 300 km north of Brisbane on the coast of the Coral Sea. You can hire a 4WD vehicle in Brisbane or rent a truck in Mackay. No matter which direction you are coming from, there are plenty of places in Queensland where you can hire a truck.

Carnarvon National Park allows you to experience the Queensland Outback. It is west of Hervey Bay and Bundaberg. Camping and exploring the rugged terrain here is very popular. Witness wildlife, wildflowers, amazing views and landscapes and learn about the rich Aboriginal culture. Some of the best 4WD beach driving is in Great Sandy National Park and the coastal area just south of Hervey Bay. Beach driving is allowed on the beaches of the national park, Fraser Island, and Rainbow Beach. You can hire a truck or 4WD vehicle in Hervey Bay on the coast and then head west to Carnarvon Gorge National Park for you 4WD adventure. Deepwater National Park is a great place for 4WD beaches a little further up the Queensland coast north of Hervey Bay. The park offers a rugged beach terrain but also other forested landscapes and freshwater springs. You can rent a 4WD vehicle in Bundaberg  or hire a truck in Gladstone. Sundown National Park is very different from the coastal National Parks but still requires a four wheel drive vehicle for the rugged terrain including waterholes, waterfalls, and steep gorges. the park offers some great 4WD adventure tracks for off road driving while also looking out for the unique plant and animal life protected within the park. When planning a trip to the rugged inland national parks, you can hire a truck in Gold Coast, hire a 4WD vehicle in Brisbane, or the closest location is the Warwick Budget Trucks rental location.

The Hay River track begins in Birdsville, Queensland to Gemtree, Northern Territory. It takes you through 900 miles of the northern section of the Simpson Desert and takes about 9 days. Each year, in early September Birdsville has a very popular racing carnival. This also coincides with the best time to travel this track, from May through September. You can rent the truck in Ballera, which is in Queensland close to Birdsville.

The Simpson Desert French Line is a 3 day road trip that covers 439 km between Dalhousie Springs, South Australia to Birdsville, Queensland (where the Hay River Track begins). The best time to travel this track is also between May and September. The 4WD vehicle is necessary for the 1,200 sand dunes on the Simpson Desert French Line. The Coober Pedy Airport is the best places to hire a truck for driving through the Simpson Desert French Line. Be sure to bring extra petrol. supplies, and drinking water.
