This rugged and beautiful park has rocky headlands, coastal woodlands, and secluded beaches with 344 metre high Mount Funnel as the focal point. The park is known to locals as a quiet and relaxing place to get away. Cape Palmerston National Park is a place to be one with nature.

Carnarvon National Park is located in central Queensland east of Hervey Bay which is between Rockhampton and Sunshine Coast. It is one of the must see locations for 4 wheel driving. Camping is available in the park with a variety of accommodations. The park is filled with rugged gorges, magnificent views, bush camping locations, wildflowers (in season), and a host of wildlife to be on the lookout for. Most of all to remember here is that this land is rich in Aboriginal cultural history.

If four-wheel driving on the beach is your idea of off road fun, then check out the area just south of Hervey Bay. There you will find Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach, and Great Sandy National Park. You can take the Ferry to Fraser Island, once there, you can find out of 4×4 off road tours or hiring a truck to go out on your own or hire a private tour guide. The rugged terrain of Fraser Island makes four-wheel-driving necessary. Do your research as to what types of permits and documentation you will need to bring with you if you plan on venturing out on your own in a vehicle. For more beach four-wheel driving over sand dunes, check out Deepwater National Park up the coast north of Hervey Bay. The rugged beach terrain is both beautiful and adventurous with Deepwater Creek, forestry, and a magnificent coastline. While there you can camp at Wreck Rock. Because Deepwater is far enough away from many of the major, well-known holiday destinations, it is unspoilt and has one of the few remaining freshwater springs.

Sundown National Park is inland from Gold Coast Queensland or Byron Bay in New South Wales. It is right on the border of Queensland and New South Wales. This region of Queensland is much different from the coast, as you can see there are many national parks concentrated in this one area protecting the wild and rugged land here that is filled with waterholes, waterfalls, steep forges, plant life and animals. The 4WD tracks are a great adventure for the whole family. In this area, both Sundown National Park and Girraween National Park have 4WD track and off road driving opportunities.
