If you are planning to move to Darwin, it is quite different than many of the other major or capital cities we have highlighted in the past. Darwin is the capital and most populated city in the Northern Territory and it is a growing city, but still very small by comparison. As you probably may know, the Northern Territory is very remote and Darwin is on the coast, but the surrounds are most bush lands, national parks, and remote rivers. Darwin’s population is about 136,000 and the city itself is quite small, especially in comparison to some of the other large cities in Australia. There is a city centre; however, it is much smaller than you might even expect. That being said, if you are moving to Darwin, you are probably not much interested in the “city life” anyhow. This region is known for the abundance of crocodiles, fishing, and remote lands. Darwin also serves as an important port city because of its proximity to Asia. As BobinOz.com points out, it’s not like you are going to see crocodiles in the city, but they are plentiful in the surrounding lakes, rivers, billabongs, and even in the ocean and possibly beaches around Darwin. Gold Coast is a city in Queensland that is right on the coast (as the name indicates). It is a popular tourist destination, but it is also a great and exciting place to live. In the centre of the Gold Coast’s beachside skyline is Surfer’s Paradise. It features a wide stretch of beach and the tallest residential skyscraper in the world known as Q1. It is the 2nd most populated city in Queensland and the 6th most populous city in Australia. Gold Coast is just 94 km south of Brisbane. Since Gold Coast is so close to the capital city, it is often considered a combined urban centre and together has a population of over 3 million.
