When moving into a new home, it is often the only time and definitely the best time to renovate, remodel, and redesign. Even if your home isn’t brand new, it’s “new to you” and you should take this opportunity to make your new home your own. Some projects might be smaller in scope and some might be larger, but it is much easier to accomplish changes before you are in the home along with all your furniture and belongings.
Ventilated Kitchen Drawer
Add a ventilated kitchen drawer in your cabinets to store produce that isn’t supposed to be refrigerated. The extra air will help preserve them longer, keep them fresher longer, and prevent odors which can form in enclosed spaces. Produce that belongs here include potatoes, onions, and tomatoes. Remember to keep each type of produce separate.
Extra Space Wine Rack
Almost every kitchen will have a small amount of space somewhere that you can’t do anything with. Until now! The extra 6 or 8 inches in between appliances or cabinets can become a clever usage of space in the form of a wine rack. Just check ahead of time that the appliance next to your wine rack does not run hot.
Decorate with Art in the Kitchen
Art can definitely work in the kitchen. Make bland walls have lots of artful flavour with imagery, paintings, photos, etc. The key to making art work in the kitchen it to keep it uniform whether it is in style, size, colour, or design.
Chalkboard paint is available anywhere you buy paint. It is a fun way to keep fluidity in the design of your room. In this example, it is a wall in the kitchen, which lends itself to recipes, grocery lists, and the like. A chalkboard wall in your office can serve as a fun way to keep notes or write important information down. A chalkboard in the kid’s room lends itself to creativity and never having to worry about painting over crayons or other drawing accidents.
Open up a small kitchen or add amazing light to any kitchen with a sun roof. The kitchen should always be one of the brightest rooms in your home, this is a great way to achieve that while saving energy on lighting during the day. A sun roof window also helps make a smaller kitchen look much larger.
In-Wall Pest Control System
This unique and novel idea is also a practical and necessary one. You might have never thought of this, but adding this tube for pest control during construction will save you a lot of time and energy for the rest of the time you spend in your home. It will allow you to easily distribute pest control throughout your walls where you cannot otherwise reach yet bugs, insects, and rodents can.
Like the wine rack extra space idea above, this idea allows you to utilize the space at the bottom of your cabinets as storage. Instead of just putting baseboards under the cabinets in your kitchen and bathroom, you can gain quite a bit of extra storage space you never thought you could have.
Everyone can use extra space in their guest rooms. They are often the room that gets everything thrown in it yet are only used for a guest room a small part of the time. This idea lets you be ready for guests anytime without losing any storage space. For a small guest room, consider keeping the bed under the platform to make room for storage, and office space, or a sitting room.
Extra Room Above the Stairs
You always hear about storage room under the stairs, but what about above it? These two images show ideas for adding a loft space above the stairs. In one case it is a great playroom for the kids, in the other example, it is a cozy and efficient office for two. These make for excellent uses of space where there was none before.
Dog House Under the Stairs
You always read about ways to add storage under the stairs, but what about a dog house? These examples are great ideas for your furry best friends to get their own special space in your new home. The space can be customised for them and make them feel right at home in your new house.
