We are starting our list of off road holiday destinations at the top. By the top, we mean the northern most point on mainland Australia, often referred to as “The Tip” on the Cape York Peninsula. The Cape York Track is also known as the Old Telegraph Track. It takes you through the Far North of Queensland from Cooktown to Seisa. The track is a total of 848 kilometres. You can spend one week or a few weeks on this off road adventure and the best time of the year to do this is from May to October. This is late autumn and early winter in the tropical north, so it may not be too chilly; however, this is the dry season. The Cape York Track has several river crossings to be wary of, even during the dry season. Here are some of the places you should try to visit while on holiday in Cape York: Old Laura Station, Lakefield National Park, Weipa, Thursday Island, and Chili Beach.

The suggested minimum travel time to complete the road trip is 3 days, but of course you can take your time and explore the spectacular Kimberley region. Along this road trip there is so much to see and do including national parks, gorges, falls, swimming holes, and Aboriginal villages. Driving the Binns Track road trip takes you through the heart of the outback of the Northern Territory. This is some of the most rugged terrain in Australia. To illustrate that point, the minimum suggested travel time is 10 days over only 219 kilometres from the South Australia and Northern Territory border through the Simpson Desert in the Northern Territory. The road trip is slow going because of the mountains, valleys, plains, and desert terrain. Advanced 4WD and caution should be used when driving through the jagged rocks, dry riverbeds, bogs, etc.
